Kybella is a non-surgical option for moderate to severe fullness under your chin. This is an injectable procedure.
Kybella is a deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule that helps break down fat in the body. Kybella is a synthetic form of this acid.
Treatments are customizable to you based off of the amount of fullness under your chin but also your aesthetic goals.
Typically, more than one treatment is needed to achieve optimal results.
Kybella is a deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule that helps break down fat in the body. Kybella is a synthetic form of this acid. Kybella breaks down fat cells with each treatment. Over time, those cells are cleared away through the natural processes of your body.
Benefits of Kybella include the reduction of submental fat, improved chin profile, permanent fat cell destruction.
Taking the following within 1 week of treatment may increase your risk of bruising – Alcohol, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, St. John’s Wort, Fish oils, Gingko Biloba, Vitamins C and E.
Do cancel if you are at all unwell, even minor coughs and colds can increase your risk of post treatment complications.
Reschedule if you think you have any open areas, acne or a skin infection in the treatment area.
The active ingredient (deoxycholic acid) can cause a burning sensation during and shortly after the injections.
Very tiny needles are used and the treatment is tolerated very well with minimal discomfort by most.
Ice pre and post procedure may also be helpful as a numbing of the skin prior to the tiny needle injection.
With Kybella swelling should be expected post procedure. This is an intended and desired outcome. The swelling does go down typically within 5-7 days. The most significant swelling typically occurring within the first 24 hours.
Other possible side effects include but not limited to pain, bruising, numbness, redness, hair loss and areas of hardness in the treatment area.
Most side effects are usually self-limiting therefore progressively get better over time without any specific intervention.
Kybella PERMANENTLY destroys fat cells. Therefore, the results achieved are sustained. Weight gain or loss can affect the remaining fat cells in the treated areas therefore some fluctuations may be seen. However, typically in the treatment area with weight gain you should notice less fat gained in the treated area(s).
Results are achieved gradually over a period of several months. Treatments are usually separated by 4-6 weeks.
Kybella has been evaluated in approximately 20 clinical studies around the world. Approximately 1,600 people world wide have been treated with Kybella.
All treatments carry a degree of risk. However, this is a very safe treatment, complications are rare when the aftercare advice is followed. All risks and complications will be discussed with you at consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed.
Kybella is used to treat moderate to severe fullness under the chin. If you have a small amount of submental fat this may not be an appropriate option for you.
If you have an excessive amount of skin laxity under the chin you likely are not a good candidate for Kybella.
This treatment is not for pregnant or lactating women.
There are a number of medical conditions and or medicines that may affect the decision to treat or the treatment plan. A full medical history and assessment of your expectations is necessary in advance of any decision to treat. Inform your provider if you had or plan to have surgery on your face, neck or chin; have had other cosmetic treatments on your face, neck or chin; have had or currently have any medical conditions in or near the neck area; have had or have trouble swallowing; have bleeding problems or are taking blood thinning medication.
